Tobias Zachary Ziegler ⇒ “There’s no one in this room who wouldn’t rather die than let you down, you know.”

Guh, Toby, my Toby. He was the eldest brother in the family Bartlet, and his relationships with everybody make my heart a happier place. Richard Schiff put on the performance of his career in this role, and I am never over it. I can’t articulate what it is that makes Toby Ziegler so brilliant, but it’s something so intangibly delicious. His reluctant love for this family that they form is so compelling. He is witty, brilliant and his heart is beautiful. Where I understood that of Josh in Crackpots, it was In Excelsis Deo that Schiff delved into that aspect of the character. He is honourable, he is wonderful, he is incomparable. We had it good there for a while. Okay, just talking about Toby is making me cry right now. Just, I adore him. Never assume him to be a curmudgeon, he’s not. He is probably the most complex character I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch, and while he can be the most somber at times, he can also be the most thoughtful, and good-hearted.
